Cleanup at Sugarland Run

An event to benefit Sterling's skatepark project

DATE: August 15, 2009

TIME: 10 AM - 1 PM

WHERE: Sugarland Run Pond
200 Greenfield Ct
Sterling, VA 20164

Loudoun County Skate Project has organized a community volunteer event to support their current skate park projects. This event will take place at the pond in Sugarland Run on the 15th of August from 10am to 1pm. Skateboarders, community residents, and other interested people are invited and encouraged to participate in this volunteer effort. Participants will be collecting trash from the perimeter of pond and surrounding areas, tidying pathway which borders the pond, and removing graffiti from the nearby drainage area which is a popular skateboarding area.

LCSP’s goal for this event is to renew a community eyesore into a clean environment where residents, wildlife, and nature can grow. The event will also bring local skateboarders and residents together in a volunteer effort to benefit their own community.

Clean-up Result:

The clean-up event went excellent, about 10 volunteers participated and collected over 25 trash bags of litter floating around in the pond and on surrounding areas, and over 400 sq ft of graffiti was covered in the nearby drainage area.

Some of the interesting items the volunteers found in the pond were a bike, yoga mat, trash can, 90's cell phone, lightsaber, and plenty of fishing lines, beer cans and arizona iced tea cans.

We would like to personally thank all of the volunteers who helped out: Stephen Jefferson, Barbara Jefferson, Anibel Andujar, William Rodriguez, Colby Millsap, Austin Jefferson, Nicole Conde, Jonathon Thurston, Isabel Paroon, Mark Millsap, Brent Jefferson, and Julian Vicencio. Also thanks to Elizabeth Coe from the Loudoun Times newspaper for her help promoting the event and the Sugarland Home Owners Association for letting us host this event.

This event is: promotional, public
